Production Process and Applications of Honeycomb Activated Carbon

Honeycomb activated carbon is a highly efficient adsorption material widely used in air purification, industrial waste gas treatment, and solvent recovery. Its unique honeycomb structure provides a large surface area, low air resistance, and excellent adsorption performance.

Production Process

The production of honeycomb activated carbon generally includes five main steps:

Kneading – The raw carbon powder is mixed with binders and kneaded evenly to form a uniform mixture suitable for shaping.

Extrusion Molding – The mixture is extruded through molds equipped with honeycomb dies to form the honeycomb-shaped blocks.

Drying – The molded blocks are dried to reduce moisture content to below 2%, ensuring stability for the next stage.

Carbonization – The dried blocks are heated to 600–800°C at a rate of 3–5°C/min to remove volatile substances and form a stable carbon structure.

Activation – Finally, the carbonized blocks are activated at 750–850°C using steam or other activating gases for 3–15 hours. This process develops the microporous structure that provides high adsorption capacity.

Applications

Due to its excellent physical and chemical properties, honeycomb activated carbon is widely used in:

Air purification systems – Removing VOCs, formaldehyde, and odors in indoor and industrial environments.

Waste gas treatment – Capturing organic solvents, benzene, toluene, and other industrial exhaust pollutants.

Solvent recovery – Efficiently recovering volatile organic compounds from production processes.

Environmental protection – Supporting cleaner production and sustainable development in chemical, electronic, and automotive industries.
